Champai Soren stated that while the Chief Minister has the right to call a meeting of MLAs, he was not informed of the agenda beforehand

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Champai Soren expressed deep discontent on Sunday, stating that his self-respect was hurt when he was asked to resign after Chief Minister Hemant Soren was released on bail. In a post on X, Champai Soren shared his feelings about the incident, revealing that he was not informed of the agenda for the meeting of MLAs and other INDIA bloc leaders that followed Hemant Soren’s release.

Uninformed and Unprepared

Champai Soren stated that while the Chief Minister has the right to call a meeting of MLAs, he was not informed of the agenda beforehand. During the meeting, he was unexpectedly asked to resign. Although surprised by the request, he stated that he did not cling to power and immediately tendered his resignation, but he admitted that the situation left him emotionally distressed due to the damage to his self-respect.

Resignation and Hemant Soren’s Return

On Wednesday, Champai Soren officially submitted his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan, clearing the way for Hemant Soren to resume his role as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister for the third time. The decision for the leadership change was reached after INDIA alliance MLAs and leaders agreed on the replacement earlier in the day.

Feelings of Betrayal

In his post, Champai Soren further expressed that the events left him feeling as though he had “no existence in the party” to which he had devoted his entire life. He mentioned that there were several other “insulting events” that he chose not to detail. The culmination of these insults, he said, forced him to consider finding an alternative path in his political journey.
