The government has started a new scheme to give free treatment to people injured in road accident anywhere in the country. Under this scheme, accident victims can get treatment worth up to Rs 1.5 lakh at selected hospitals.
This free treatment will be available for up to seven days after the accident. Anyone hurt in a road accident involving a motor vehicle on road in India can get this help. It doesn’t matter who the person is or what background they come from, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a notice.
Rs 1.5 Lakh Cashless Care for Crash Victims at Select Hospitals
The notice says that people inured in road accidents can get free treatment worth up to Rs 1.5 lakh at selected hospitals. This treatment is available for up to seven days after the accident. If the victim goes to a hospital not listed under the scheme, they will only get basic emergency care to keep them stable, as explained in the scheme’s rules.
NHA to Lead Scheme with Support from States and Hospitals
The National Health Authority (NHA) will run this important program. It will work together with the police, hospitals, and State Health Agencies to make it happen. In each state and Union
Territory, the State Road Safety Council will be in charge of carrying out the scheme in their area.
This includes working with the National Health Authority to add selected hospitals to the scheme, manage the treatment of accident victims, handle payments to hospitals, and take care of other related tasks through a special online portal.
Th central government will also set up steering committee to supervise and make sure the scheme is working well across the country, the notice said.
Earlier, on March 14, 2024, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had started a trial version of this free treatment scheme for road accident victims.
