Ayodhya Deepotsav 2024: 25 Lakh Lamps To Illuminate Ghats Along Banks Of Sarayu River At Govt Expenses

This year’s celebration aims to set a new world record by illuminating Ayodhya with 28 lakh eco-friendly lamps to be floated on the Saryu River, emphasizing the theme environmental awareness.

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, is gearing up to celebrate the eighth Deepotsav in Ayodhya as the first Diwali at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. This year’s celebration aims to set a new world record by illuminating Ayodhya with 28 lakh eco-friendly lamps to be floated on the Saryu River, emphasizing the theme environmental awareness.

Special wax lamps will be used which will give out less soot and carbon, the structure of the temple will not be influenced while the lamps will burn longer. As part of this year’s Deepotsav theme, these lamps too help in the conversation of the environment, as stated by the government.

Floral ornamentation at the Ram temple complex and other arrangements like area segregation for various artistic elements will be coordinated by Ashukbhai Shukla of the Bihar cadre IG rank retirement. The government has said that the celebration is intended to transform Ayodhya into a symbol of faith, cleanliness, and environmental stewardship. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra has decided that the temple will be open for ‘Bhavan Darshan’ till midnight from October 29 to November 1 to allow visitors to experience the grandeur.

Professor Pratibha Goyal, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University has organized a team where more than thirty thousand volunteers have been made for the decoration of 55 ghats along the saryu river where 28 lakhs diya will be placed under the direction of 2000 co-ordinators, supervisors and ghat managers.

Sant Sharan Mishra, the nodal officer for the Deepotsav celebrations, said 30,000 volunteers from 14 colleges, 37 inter-colleges, and 40 NGOs are involved in the preparations. Also, 80,000 diyas are being set up in the shape of Swastik at Ghat no 10 of Ram ki Paidi which has become a key attraction for the festival.

Volunteers having ID cards, T-shirts and caps with QR code are placing diyas in one frame of 16*16 grids each having 256 diyas and on 30th October which is chhoti Diwali, target is to install diyas to set a world record. To support the volunteers, arrangements for clean drinking water have been made at the ghats. In addition, food is being provided at the Bhajan Sandhya venue. The Deputy registrar of the university Dinesh Kumar Maurya is ensuring coordination with the Municipal Corporation for cleaning each and every ghat of the river, drinking water and Foods for volunteers are also ensured.

Preparations for the diya arrangements are expected to conclude by October 28, where each diya will be filled with 30 ml of mustard oil, with meticulous supervision during the process, while counting will be on the following day that is the 29th.

The festival marks a continuity of the historic event that happened on 22nd January when Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the foundation laying of Ram Lalla idol and called on the nation to build the foundation of a “strong, capable and divine” India.
