Attention! Restrictions Now In Place For Platform Ticket Sales At Railway Stations

To ensure access for vulnerable individuals, the Central Railway has announced that senior citizens and those with medical needs will be exempt from these ticket restrictions.

In response to the tragic stampede at Bandra terminus, the Central Railway has implemented temporary restrictions on platform ticket sales across several major stations. This measure will be in place for 13 days, beginning immediately and lasting until November 8, during the high-traffic travel period of Diwali and Chhath Puja. The key stations affected by this decision include Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane, Kalyan, Pune, and Nagpur.

Special Considerations for Vulnerable Passengers

To ensure access for vulnerable individuals, the Central Railway has announced that senior citizens and those with medical needs will be exempt from these ticket restrictions. This compassionate decision allows people who require extra assistance to travel more freely during this busy period, minimizing additional challenges.

Overview of the Bandra Station Incident

These restrictions follow a distressing incident that occurred early Sunday morning at Bandra railway station, where a stampede left nine people injured, with two in critical condition. The chaos erupted as passengers tried to board a Gorakhpur-bound train while it was still moving. As the train moved from the yard to the platform, many passengers, unaware that the doors were closed, rushed forward, causing several to fall between the coaches and onto the platform.

Government Faces Increasing Criticism

In the wake of the stampede, the Maharashtra government is under fire from opposition parties, who are holding it accountable for the incident. Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey criticized the government’s apparent indifference to the safety of ordinary citizens, especially the underprivileged. He questioned whether railway authorities and the minister would take responsibility for the injuries sustained by passengers.

Additionally, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut expressed concerns regarding the Railway Minister’s oversight, pointing out that since the Modi government began its third term, over 25 major train accidents have occurred, resulting in more than 100 fatalities. Raut’s statements reflect widespread frustration and emphasize the urgent need for improved safety measures to protect railway passengers.
