An Air India flight from Birmingham to Delhi received a bomb threat on Saturday with the aircraft diverting to Riyadh, ANI reported quoting a spokesperson of the airlines Sunday. “Flight AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi on June 21 received a bomb threat and was diverted to Riyadh where it landed safely and was checked for security purposes,” said the spokesperson.
This comes after a technical glitch in an IndiGo flight, leading to it being canceled on Friday. The fault was uncovered before the aircraft commenced taxiing, and as a precaution all passengers had disembarked safely, ANI reported Sunday.
Additionally, we have been seeing a wave of cancellations and rescheduling in the aviation industry related to technical issues, especially within the context of the continuing fallout from the recent Air India crash out of Ahmedabad. On Saturday, it was reported that an Air India Express flight from Delhi to Patna was diverted to Varanasi due to the weather, though it did get to its destination.
Also, on Friday, an IndiGo flight from Guwahati to Chennai, with 168 passengers, declared as “Mayday” and landed at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. A report states that the captain had declared “Mayday” after they were low on fuel.
The IndiGo flight had attempted to land in Chennai, however, the unstable approach forced them to abort and climb on departure after having the landing gear on the runway. Their “mayday” call, and emergency landing, occurred approximately 35 miles from Bengaluru, which is why an alternate airport was necessary.
