Analysts believe, the oppositiothe n alliance of INDIA has plunged into an unprecedented crisis after the BJP returned to power in Delhi after a hiatus of 27 years, mainly because the AAP and Congress parted ways and fought against each other.

Will Congress, TMC Learn Lessons From Delhi Elections?

Though the grand old party failed to win a single seat in Delhi Elections, the votes it polled were more than the victory margin of the AAP in 14 seats.

Besides, the combined votes of the AAP and Congress were more than the votes polled by the BJP in as many as 19 seats.

It is clear that the BJP which went home with 48 seats, could have been limited to 29. Consequently, the AAP-Congress alliance or the INDIA bloc could have formed the government in the national capital, keeping the saffron party out of power for one more term.

West Bengal: Different Political Dynamics

The political dynamics in West Bengal is a little bit different with the ruling TMC having 224 and the BJP 66 seats in the 294-member assembly.

While the Left Front parties, including the CPIM, drew a blank in the assembly elections held in 2021, Congress won one seat and its lone member defected to join the TMC.

Mamata Banerjee refused to share a seat with the CPIM or Congress in the assembly and parliamentary elections.

Analysts believe, as the Congress and the CPIM are the main adversaries of the TMC, against which Banerjee has fought a relentless war for years, her cadres would not have accepted any hobnobbing with the rivals.

Mamata Banerjee Challenges Rahul Gandhi

The ruling party of West Bengal has not only fought against the grand old party, but its leader Mamata Banerjee has openly questioned the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

The TMC openly said that Mamata Banerjee is better suited for the job.

West Bengal Chief Minister also made her intentions and strategy clear by declaring that the TMC would go alone in the next West Bengal assembly elections.

Mamata Banerjee Rules Out Deal With Congress

Reacting to the results of the Delhi Elections, she told her legislators and ministers that the TMC will win the 2026 poll on its own with a two-thirds majority.

Thus, she ruled out the possibility of any seat-sharing deal with the CPIM or Congress in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.

The knives are out, the daggers are drawn, much before the political chess board is set in West Bengal. It is too early to say anything about the result of the West Bengal assembly Elections, but the INDIA bloc is in shambles with no takers in the state.
