  1. After Batti Lal Bairwa was elected as JNUSU president in 1996–1997, Dhananjay is the first Dalit president from the Left.
  2. With 2,598 votes, Dhananjay from the All India Students’ Association (AISA) defeated Umesh C. Ajmeera of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), who received 1,676 votes, to win the position of JNUSU president.
