The news of rift between director Vetrimaran and actor Dhanush had made fans worried, especially about the much awaited sequel of ‘Vada Chennai’. But now Vetrimaran himself has come out and put an end to all these rumours and has clearly said that everything is fine between him and Dhanush.
Vettrimaran shared this through a video on the YouTube channel of his production house Grass Root Film Company. He openly discussed his upcoming film with Silambarasan TR (STR) and dismissed all speculations.
He said that the film being made with STR-tentatively titled ‘STR 49’-is set in the world of ‘Vada Chennai’, but it is not a direct sequel to that film. Vetrimaran also clarified that all the rights to ‘Vada Chennai’ be it sequel, prequel or spin-off are with Dhanush, and he gave Vetrimaran an NOC for this new project without any charges.
Vettrimaran said, “STR 49 is set in the world of Vada Chennai, but it’s not Vada Chennai 2. I told him (Dhanush) about this film with Simbu, and he said this would be a new experience for me. Simbu also met me and asked me to only do this film if I’m okay with it, saying he’s okay with a separate, standalone film too. He does not want issues to crop up between me and Dhanush. So, they respect each other and are ready to give me the space to be myself.”
Vetrimaaran also clarified that Dhanush and him are not fighting over the project and that everything is fine between them. “I don’t like the conversation revolving around Dhanush and this movie. My relationship with Dhanush has not changed, nor has it affected the film in any way. He will never disrupt my creative flow,” he revealed.

He further revealed that when he was in a financial crisis, Dhanush went ahead and got him an advance amount from a producer. Vetrimaran said, “I don’t like the conversation revolving around Dhanush and this movie. My relationship with Dhanush has not changed, nor has it affected the film in any way. He will never disrupt my creative flow.”
Vetrimaaran also spoke about his other anticipated film Vaadi Vaasal, starring Suriya. Recent reports suggested that the project had been delayed.
Shedding light on it, the director said “Vaadi Vaasal has been delayed due to writing, technical and safety measures. As Vaadi Vaasal was delaying, we met Silambarasan TR and everything everything fell in place within a few hours.”
