Munna Bhai 3: The anticipation around the third installment of the Munna Bhai franchise has been there for years now; however, makers Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra have been busy with other projects. A ray of hope entered the scene when Hirani, during an event, finally mentioned the movie and shared that a Sanjay Dutt film is his top priority at the moment.
While interacting with the audience, the filmmaker said, “I have five half-finished scripts for Munna Bhai. I spent six months on a script, reached the interval, and it just wouldn’t go beyond that. There is a Munna Bhai LLB, Munna Bhai Chal Base, Munna Bhai Chale Amreeka, and more.” Talking about the struggle of getting a fresh idea for the much-awaited film, he shared, “The most important factor is that the next installment has to be better than the previous films. But now, I have a unique idea. Of course, over the course of 100 years of cinema, everything has been said. But yeah, I am working on that idea.” Hirani directed the first and second installments of the franchise titled Munna Bhai M.B.B.S and Lage Raho Munna Bhai.
A new obstacle?
However, it seems that things won’t be as easy and smooth as they sound, and people might have to wait a little more. A new report by Times Now suggests that the Munna Bhai franchise’s producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, wants to make the film without teaming up with Hirani. This comes amid the ongoing rift between the two, which has also allegedly been the reason behind the postponement of Munna Bhai 3. “He has been under pressure to take over the reins of the Munna Bhai franchise for many years. But Vinod felt the franchise rightfully belonged to Raju Hirani. But now that Raju has moved on—Dunki is his first production without Vinod Chopra—the Munna Bhai franchise is no longer liable to be attached to Hirani. So yeah, Vinod will direct Munna Bhai 3 and sooner than you think,” read the report by Times Now.

As the chatter around Munna Bhai 3 began, fans got excited to witness the magic that Sanjay Dutt and Hirani create on screen. Taking to the comment section, people wrote, “Only Hirani’s movies can save Bollywood now.” Another commented, “If it is ever made, then sky is the limit.” While everyone wants it to be released soon, some feel that Hirani should take his own good time and not disappoint fans with anything mediocre. “Yes, one final visit to the characters of Munna bhai & Circuit would be amazing. The script has to be worthy of it, so it’s good that he isn’t just jumping into it,” wrote a fan.
