In the wake of India blocking the Instagram accounts of several Pakistani artistes, numerous celebrities found themselves disconnected from a significant portion of their followers. But there were some who found that the love of their Indian fans wasn’t confined by legal or virtual constraints.
One such celebrity is Hania Aamir, a well-known Pakistani actress with a significant following in India. Even after the social media ban, her fans have been getting around it in creative ways by using VPNs (virtual private networks) to bypass restrictions and send her messages.
Indian Fans Find A Way To Connect
Hania’s Instagram account has been raking in comments from Indian fans who were able to find a way around the block. Screenshots of these touching exchanges have been going around on social media, highlighting just how committed her fans are.One follower wrote under her post, “Hello Hania, VPN ka subscription liya hai sirf aapke liye (I have subscribed to VPN just for you). Love from India.” To this, Hania responded simply yet warmly saying, “Love you.”
The messages haven’t gone unseen by the actor, who has been visibly moved by the actions of her Indian fans. In another statement, when a fan attempted to calm her down by assuring her that Indians are using VPNs to watch her content, Hania replied with real emotion: “Ro doongi (I will cry).”

After banning the Instagram handles of Pakistani celebrities the Indian government also banned a number of popular Pakistani entertainment channels such as ARY Digital, Hum TV, and Geo TV. This step practically puts an end to the viewing by Indian audiences of popular Pakistani dramas that have been featured consistently in India for years. The prohibition, in some people’s views, is considered a political act, while to others it represents a loss to the cultural understanding between the two countries.
