The much-anticipated film ‘Mrs.’, featuring Sanya Malhotra, is now streaming on ZEE5. Directed by Arati Kadav, ‘Mrs.’ is a Hindi-language re-make of the Malayalam film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ (2021). The narrative of the film centres on a young bride, Richa, portrayed by Sanya, who finds herself submerged in household chores, causing her aspirations of becoming a dancer to fade. The film delves into themes of womanhood, identity, and the challenges within a traditional household.
In an exclusive interview with News 24, director Arati Kadav shared insights into the challenges faced during the shooting of ‘Mrs.’. The film was shot in a single location and followed a linear sequence, making the experience intense for both the cast and crew.
Sanya Malhotra Gets Emotional Toll
Aarti revealed that Sanya Malhotra, known for her deep connection with her characters, undergone an emotional turmoil during filming. She began the shoot with enthusiasm but gradually became emotionally drained due to the role’s intensity. “Sanya plays a character with a lot of empathy. By the end, I could see that she was feeling very sad. She had to remind herself that this was just a role and not her real story,” Aarti said.
Beyond this, the crew encountered unplanned problems during production. Aarti recounted an incident where their costume designer misplaced the key outfits for the actors while taking them for dry cleaning. “We had a full day of shooting ahead, but we had to wait until late morning for the clothes to arrive. My heartbeat was racing, and I felt like I was having a heart attack worrying about the delay,” she recounted.
Additionally, the production faced issues such as water leakage in the kitchen and an on-set fire, adding to the challenges of filming.
A Fun Yet Intense Filming Experience
Despite all the difficulties, the team had enjoyed shooting all together, said Aarti. She recalled how they practised throwing water on an actor for a scene multiple times, making it a light-hearted and humourous experience amid the demanding schedule.
