Diljit Dosanjh made a striking debut at the 2025 Met Gala, as he walked the blue carpet in a regal Prabal Gurung ensemble. Embracing his Punjabi roots, Diljit wore a traditional attire, a turban (a symbol of Sikh identity) and a kurta and tehmat (a long tunic and draped bottoms). His cape also had Gurumukhi script, and the singer completed his outfit with a sword.
While speaking with the New York Times, Diljit opened up on his ensemble “It’s what I’ve been doing all this time. It’s about carrying your identity with pride, right?” he said.
Behind the scenes, Diljit’s team had ambitious plans to elevate the look further by featuring the original Patiala Necklace which in 1928, the Maharaja of Patiala commissioned Cartier to make him a diamond necklace that weighed 1,000 carats, the largest necklace the French jeweller has ever made. The Patiala necklace, containing a staggering 2900 diamonds, and was worth ₹10 crore at the time but an estimated ₹21,000 crore or $2.5 billion today.
However, the iconic piece remains sealed in a museum and permission to borrow it was denied.
Diljit’s stylist Abhilasha Devnani instead collaborated with Indian jeweller Golecha to create jewellery inspired by the royal collection and also including a turban brooch.
The 2025 Met Gala also featured other Indian icons including Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani, designers Manish Malhotra and Isha Ambani.
