The Air India plane crash that happened in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, has shaken the nation. The tragedy took the lives of over 270 people and the DNA analysis was done to identify the victims. Gujarati filmmaker Mahesh Jirawala, who has been missing since June 12, has been confirmed to be one of the victims through DNA analysis. The police revealed that Mahesh was last traced to the vicinity of the crash site before the plane crash.
His remains have been handed over to the family. Mahesh’s two-wheeler was also recovered from the site. His family was earlier unwilling to accept that Mahesh passed away due to the fire caused by the plane crash. However, the reason for his demise was confirmed through a DNA test.
Mahesh’s wife Hetal told PTI, “My husband called me at 1.14 pm to tell me his meeting is over and that he is on his way home. However, when he did not return, I called up on his phone but it was switched off. After police were intimated, the last location of his mobile phone showed he was 700 metres away from the crash site.”
“His phone got switched off around 1:40 pm (a minute after the ill-fated flight took off). His scooter and mobile phone are missing. All this is unusual since he would never use that route (as per the last location) to come home. We have submitted DNA samples to check if he was one of those killed on the ground due to the crash,” she further added.
The Air India aircraft bound for London from Ahmedabad crashed seconds after it took off, killing 241 people onboard, with just one survivor.
