Karnataka Rolls Out New Admission Guidelines For 2025-26: CBSE & ICSE Schools Under Strict Scrutiny-Check Rules

In its latest decision, the department stressed the importance of transparency and fairness and has cautioned the schools that violations could lead to strict action against them.

Karnataka’s Department of School Education and Literacy has reasserted important rules and guidelines regarding the admission process for private aided and unaided schools across all boards for the academic year 2025-26. In its latest decision, the department stressed the importance of transparency and fairness and has cautioned the schools that violations could lead to strict action against them.

All schools are asked to display their admission timelines, available seats according to class, and fee details on the notice board of the school. The information should also be available on the website of schools, the SATS portal, and should be in their school prospectus to ensure that it reaches to every parent.

Fee Transparency And Mandatory Reservation

To encourage gender equality, the department has mandated that co-educational schools reserve 50% of their seats for girls. If there are not enough female applicants, the remaining seats can be given to boys. Additionally, schools must follow reservation norms for students from SC, ST, and OBC categories, except in the case of linguistic or religious minority institutions, which are exempt from this rule.

In terms of financial clarity, schools are asked to disclose the approved fee structure for the academic year. Charging additional or unapproved fees is not allowed, and any demand for capitation fees is strictly forbidden. Those who are seen violating the rules will be liable to strict action.

Ban On Interviews

The new rules also prohibit schools from having interviews with prospective students or their parents during the admission process. Any such process will be treated as a violation. Schools affiliated with CBSE and ICSE must follow both their respective board regulations and the state’s circulars during admissions. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.

The department has created these regulations to defend student and parental rights and aims to stop discrimination in admissions procedures. School administrations need to work with the department to ensure a transparent and fair admission process for the year 2025–26.
