Bihar Electoral Roll Revision Hits 47% In 14 Days; ECI Confident Of Beating July 25 Deadline

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is optimistic about completing Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise by the July 25 deadline, citing strong progress as of 6 PM on July 8. The ECI reported that nearly 47% of Enumeration Forms have already been collected in just two weeks since the drive began on June 24. According to the latest data released by the ECI on Monday evening, 3.70 crore forms- out of a total target of 7.90 crore electors- have been collected as of 6 PM, July 8, marking a significant milestone in the voter roll updating exercise. The deadline for completion is set as July 25.

Per ECI data, 7.9 crore forms were printed in the first two weeks of the exercise, with over 97% (7,70,44,990) distributed to potential electors. Additionally, 18.16% of these forms have been uploaded to ECINET. The election authority is optimistic that Enumeration Forms, accompanied by the eligibility documents specified in the SIR order, will be submitted before the deadline.

“If this pace continues, the collection phase could conclude well before the July 25 deadline,” the ECI statement said.

BLO

To expedite the process, 20,603 additional Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed, increasing the total to 77,895 BLOs. These officers have completed one round of household visits and have started the second round. Additionally, nearly 4 lakh volunteers, including government employees, NCC cadets, and NSS members, are helping elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups fill out and submit their forms. The entire election team is fully mobilised, with electoral officers working across all 243 Assembly constituencies, supported by 963 Assistant Officers, 38 District Officers, and Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer, who are supervising efforts locally.

What ECI Said About Political Parties

“District Presidents of all recognised political parties have also stepped up the appointment of BLAs, and they are actively participating on the ground. As of the date, 1,56,626 BLAs have been appointed, up from 1,38,680 at the beginning of the exercise. They can, even now, appoint more BLAs as per 25.2.1 of the Manual on Electoral Rolls.” The statement read.
