Newborns Die After Doctor Sleeps With AC On In Shamli Hospital

New Delhi: Two newborn babies were found dead in the phototherapy department at a Shamli hospital. Initial reports suggest the doctors and staff at the hospital left the air condition at a low temperature. The doctors it is learnt slept after setting the temperature, the family has alleged. In Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, two newborn babies died as they could not survive low temperature by the air conditioner, making the room excessively cold, informed police officials.
As per a news report, the families of the deceased have alleged that Dr Neetu wanted to sleep well in the night so he turned on the AC and set the temperature suitable to him. However, the low temperature were actually high for the newborns who were found dead next morning.
The clinic belonged to Dr Neetu himself.
Speaking on the matter, SHO (Kairana) Netrapal Singh said after the complaint filed by the children’s families a case has been registered against Neetu under Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) IPC. He was arrested, the SHO said.
However, the Ministry of Health ordered an investigation into the case. Additional Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) Dr Ashvani Sharma said strict action would be taken against those found guilty in this case.
According to the complaint, the babies were born at a government primary health center in Kairana on Saturday and were shifted to a private clinic later that day.
They were kept in the phototherapy department for medical purposes. As per allegations, Neetu changed the air conditioner to sleep on Saturday night and both children were found dead in the unit the next morning when their families went to check on them. The relatives of the deceased protested against the incident and demanded strict action against Neetu.
