Gurugram: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nishant Yadav directed the National Authority of India to close access to the Dwarka Expressway until it’s ready to use. The 29km long expressway’s 8.9km falls in Gurgaon which is expected to be ready by June 15, and the remaining 10.1 falls in Delhi.
These instructions were issued just a few days after a significant disaster was recorded in the area. After colliding with another automobile that was driving on the wrong side of the motorway, a 56-year-old Delhi woman died and five others were injured.
Yadav said, “Work on the Gurgaon portion is in the final stages. We are hopeful that it will be ready by June 15.”
He added, “Although people are using the Central Peripheral Road (a portion of the expressway), it is unsafe and unregulated as the main carriageway is still not ready. People should not risk their lives or drive on the wrong side.”
A senior NHAI official said, “The expressway will be barricaded. We are expecting the city portion to become operational by July, while work on the Delhi region will be completed in 2024.”
