Ghaziabad: The GDA Secretary has written a letter to the Irrigation Department in fear of the collapse of the bridge built on the Hindon River due to the entanglement of water hyacinth in the environment.

The eco-bridge over the Hindon River was used as a way to reach the city forest. Dead cattle and water hyacinths get trapped under this bridge. Which are taken out from time to time. At present, a large number of water hyacinths are stuck on the bridge. Due to this, the water of the Hindon River has been filled in the city forest and nearby villages. There is a danger of the bridge being swept away due to the water hyacinth getting stuck in the bridge.

Every day, 3,000 visitors flock to the City Forest, a project undertaken by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. This picturesque forest is spread across 150 acres of land, beautifully situated on the banks of the Hindon River. To facilitate tourist access to the City Forest, an iron bridge was constructed, known as the environment bridge.

However, there’s a growing concern regarding the environmental bridge. The presence of water hyacinths in the river has become problematic, as it tends to get entangled with the bridge. Consequently, there’s an increased risk of the bridge being washed away during the rainy season, especially when the water levels rise in the Hindon River. The GDA (Ghaziabad Development Authority) periodically makes efforts to remove the water hyacinth, but due to the current rainy season and the high water levels in the river, their efforts have been hampered.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Secretary of GDA has written a letter to the Irrigation Department, requesting their assistance in removing the water hyacinth that has accumulated around the environment bridge. Given the constraints faced by the GDA in managing the situation, they believe that the Irrigation Department’s expertise and resources can effectively address this concern.
