NSG called for disposal

Upon inspection, the object appeared to be an old and hollow mortar shell. Despite the initial assessment, the authorities are not taking any chances and are carefully handling the situation. The National Security Guards (NSG), the center’s elite anti-terror agency, has been notified and is set to dispose of the potentially hazardous item.

Another shell was recovered from Kapashera

This isn’t the first time such a discovery has been made. On April 21, the Delhi Police stumbled upon another old mortar shell in the Kapashera village drain. The situation mirrored the recent find, and the NSG’s bomb disposal squad was called in to safely dispose of the explosive.

While investigations are ongoing, the safety of the public remains the utmost priority. The authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the swift and secure disposal of the missile-like object. As the city stays on high alert, citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious items or activities to the police.

What is a mortar shell?

A mortar shell is a munition used in military artillery systems. It is a cylindrical device filled with explosive material and often equipped with a fuse for detonation. Mortar shells are launched high into the air and then descend onto their target with a parabolic trajectory.

They are designed for indirect fire, making them effective for attacking enemy positions hidden behind cover or terrain. Mortar shells come in various sizes and types, and their use dates back centuries in warfare. They remain a vital component of modern military arsenals, enabling forces to deliver accurate and powerful firepower on the battlefield.
