A 23-year-old man was arrested from Indira Gandhi International Airport for allegedly duping people by posing as a Delhi Police sub-inspector.
The Delhi police arrested the man, identified as Sahil Kumar, for forging documents to pose himself as a police officer. His motive was to deceive his female acquaintances and social circle. Police seized a fake Delhi Police identity card (which had PSI written on it), a fake appointment letter, a bag containing some blank case diaries, a page bearing the seals of Delhi Police Academy and a mobile phone in which he was seen wearing a police uniform.
He was stopped and apprehended by the CISF vigilance team during routine checking at the departure area of Terminal-3 on Monday.
During interrogation, he was unable to tell where he was posted in Delhi Police, and his answers were inconsistent and unbelievable. The identity card found with him was also fake, police said.
Following a complaint lodged by CISF, Delhi Police registered a case and started investigation.
During interrogation, the youth told that he has studied only till 12th and he is currently living with a relative in Rohini area of Delhi.
When he was asked the reason for coming to the airport, he told that he was cheating many women by posing as a sub-inspector of Delhi Police and had come to meet one of them. Those women also included a female personnel of Delhi Police.
During police interrogation, the female employee confirmed that the accused had contacted her through social media and introduced himself as a sub-inspector of 2024 batch, posted at IGI Airport.
The youth admitted that he deliberately created a fake identity so that people consider him a Delhi Police officer and he could gain influence in his social relations.
He also admitted that he is only preparing for competitive examinations and is not employed in any government job. According to the police, he had bought a police uniform from the Camp area of Delhi and prepared fake IDs and appointment letters himself with the help of Photoshop.
