Delhi Minor rape case: DCW chief Swati Maliwal was prevented from meeting the 14-year-old victim who was allegedly raped by her father’s friend who worked in DCW. Premoday Khakha who was deputy director of the Delhi government’s women and child development department allegedly raped the daughter of his friend between November 2020 and January 2021 after the demise of his friend, a senior police officer said.
He made her pregnant and his wife forcefully administered drugs to terminate the pregnancy. The couple was arrested on Monday.
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson said that she was refrained from meeting the victim.
The women’s panel informed that the authorities of hospitals came to Swati Maliwal and informed her that the DCP and ACP were inside the hospital and investigating the matter and they asked them to not allow Maliwal to meet the victim.
The commission has issued notice to the Delhi Police and DCW, seeking prompt action in the matter.
Maliwal said that the Delhi Police was not able to arrest the accused even after eight days of the FIR registration. It is really shocking. She further said that she was not allowed to meet the victim on the behest of the Delhi Police. She said that she would meet the girl and would provide all the possible support to the victim.
The Women’s Commission has sought the FIR copy from the Delhi Police with the details of arrests. The commission also demanded details of actions that were taken in the case. The Delhi Police and the city government were asked to provide all the details by Wednesday.
According to the order, the suspended official is not allowed to leave the department headquarters without prior permission. On questioning the delay in the arrest, Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “It is shocking that why the official was not suspended.”
