Cold Wave Alert: Delhi To Experience Season’s Coldest Day On December 13

Delhi is set to experience its coldest day of the season on December 13, with temperatures expected to drop to around 4 degrees Celsius.

Delhi is bracing for its coldest day of the season, with temperatures expected to drop to around 4 degrees Celsius on December 13. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for the national capital, warning residents to prepare for biting cold conditions. On December 12, the minimum temperature recorded was 4.5 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest temperature in 14 years for early December.

The significant drop in temperature is attributed to cold winds blowing from the mountains, where recent snowfall has occurred. These chilly winds have contributed to a sharp decline in temperatures across northern India, affecting not only Delhi but also neighboring states like Punjab and Haryana.

Meteorologists have noted that this cold wave is influenced by La Niña, a climate pattern characterized by cooler ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. La Niña often leads to increased winter chill across northern India, resulting in colder than normal temperatures during this time of year. The current weather patterns are consistent with La Niña’s effects, which have been observed to enhance cold wave conditions.

As Delhi prepares for this cold spell, residents are advised to dress warmly and take precautions against the cold. The IMD predicts that the minimum temperatures will remain low for several days, with clear skies expected during the day but fog and mist likely in the mornings and evenings.

The maximum temperature on December 12 was forecasted to reach around 23 degrees Celsius, but the biting cold at night is expected to persist. This unusual chill has not been seen in previous years, as last year and the year before did not experience any cold wave days in early December.

With this cold wave set to continue until at least December 13, it is essential for people in Delhi and surrounding areas to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions against the severe cold.
