Violent clashes in Haryana’s Nuh lead to suspension of mobile internet services

The situation is under control as of now, however, imposition of section 144 remains in place.

Nuh: In an unfortunate turn of events, clashes erupted between two groups during a religious procession organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Nuh district, Haryana. The situation escalated rapidly, resulting in stone pelting and the burning of cars in the vicinity of Gurugram.

Numerous injuries amidst communal tensions

The VHP’s ‘Shobha Yatra’ took a violent turn as stones were hurled, causing injuries to several individuals. The Nuh district administration issued an official statement describing the unrest as a dangerous situation that posed risks to human life and property.

Mobile internet suspended to combat misinformation

In response to the escalating tension, the Nuh district administration made the decision to temporarily suspend mobile internet services in the area. The move aimed to prevent the spread of misinformation through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter, which could potentially incite more violence and vandalism.

Government deploys additional forces

Haryana’s Home Minister, Anil Vij, took swift action to address the situation by dispatching additional forces from neighboring districts. There were even efforts to send forces by helicopter to help quell the unrest and restore peace.

Trigger for the clash

Reports suggest that the cause of the clash might have been an objectionable video posted on social media by a Bajrang Dal activist in Ballabgarh. Additionally, there were rumors about the involvement of Monu Manesar, a cow vigilante wanted for the murder of two Muslim men in Rajasthan, in the procession.

Meanwhile, the violence that was ignited in Nuh gradually spread into neighbouring areas including Faridabad, Gurugram and Palwal. Furthermore, in Sohna people were indulged in arson causing unrest.

The situation is under control as of now, however, imposition of section 144 remains in place. The aftermath of communal tensions that earlier began after a couple of individuals rolled out their videos on social media calling for arson against people belonging to different community.
