In a shocking incident in Bengaluru, a 25-year-old online agent, Ijul Haque, was burnt alive by a man who suspected him of having an affair with his girlfriend. Haque was reportedly set on fire while he was asleep. The police have arrested 22-year-old Munawar Ali, a delivery agent, in connection with the crime. Both Haque and Ali are originally from Assam.
What Happened?
The incident happened in the wee hours of Friday between 3.30 am and 4.30 am. Police said that the accused, Ali, poured petrol over Haque and two of his friends and set them ablaze while they were sleeping. Haque succumbed to burns on Sunday around 5 pm. Shahnoor Rehman and Faridul Islam are battling for life in the burns ward of Victoria Hospital. They are critically injured.
Haque was staying in a shed owned by a man named Salauddin in Kariyammana Agrahara at Kadubeesanahalli. He had arrived in Bengaluru just a month ago. Haque was married and the father of a six-month-old baby girl. His wife and daughter were living in Assam at the time of the incident. The accused, Munawar Ali, who was living in the same area, was arrested by the police based on a complaint filed by Haque’s brother-in-law, Rashidul Haque.
Indian Express quoted an officer saying, “The complainant has stated that he woke up when the other three started screaming for help. He saw all three who were in flames run outside the shed. Since the complainant was sleeping at a distance, he escaped unhurt. With the help of the locals, he shifted the three to a nearby hospital and then to Victoria Hospital. Ijul succumbed to injuries on Sunday.”
What The Police Said
Ali was in love with a woman, but he thought that Haque was also in a relationship with her. This suspicion led to a fight on Wednesday. During the argument, Ali threatened Haque. Two others supported Haque in the fight. Later, on Friday, Ali went to their shed in Kariyammana Agrahara and set them on fire, according to the police.
Among the injured, Shahnoor had come to the city four months ago and works as an online delivery boy. Faridul, another victim, has been working as a security guard for the past year. The Marathahalli police have filed a case of murder (BNS 103) and attempt to murder (BNS 109) against Ali. The investigation is still going on.
