The central government has raised the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2, as per the notice issued by the Ministry of Finance mentioned on Monday. With this step, the prices of both diesel and petrol are likely to increase significantly. This hike for both petrol and diesel will come into effect from April 8, 2025. This move from the ministry came at a certain point when global prices were witnessing volatility.
The excise duty on diesel was increased to Rs 13 per liter and petrol was increased to Rs 13 per liter.
