To ensure that the brand is able to pitch in against their competitors for the rising competition in the market Honda has sought to develop and invest in multiple energy platforms, These would allow the brands to be flexible to quickly adapt to evolving market conditions. While ICE vehicles would remain the go to choice for many, the demand for Hybrid vehicles have gained formidable momentum in the recent past.
Hybrid brands including Skoda, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Mahindra and Renault are all trying their level best to upgrade the existing models in their lineup. Honda has been planning to invest in a new multi-level Energy platform just like Mahindra, Volkswagen and Skoda.
Honda’s Hybrid Cars To Use The PF2 Platform
As per a slew of media reports and another report that has been done by Autocar it’s being detailed that the Honda’s upcoming Hybrid cars would be underpinned by the new PF2 modular platform. The new platform would be able to support multiple powertrains these would include Hybrids, ICE and EV’s. Honda would be using the platform for its upcoming small and medium-sized vehicles. While these cars based on the PF2 platform would cater to the domestic demand they would be exported as well.
Honda’s aiming for a high level of localization for their PF2 platform. This approach would help the brand drive the prices down and keep the prices low. Honda has claimed that the upcoming Honda cars would be priced within the range of Rs 15 Lakh to Rs 30 lakh. Going by the aggressive pricing it’s only evident that the cars would possibly be able to gain a formidable demand. As of yet the sole Hybrid vehicle in the price range would be the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder available within the price range of Rs 16.81 Lakh to Rs 20.19 lakh.
Honda’s Upcoming Hybrid Cars and EV launches
Vehicles that would be based on the PF2 platform would include a new three Row SUV that is expected to debut by 2027. The three row SUV would be placed above the Elevate. Brands have started recognizing the momentum of demand in the MPV segment and the 3 row SUV would probably compete against the likes of Kia Carens Clavis EV that might be launched soon. Other vehicles that the SUV would be competing against would include Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.
Honda’s Second-gen models based on the PF2 platform would include a sixth generation City e-Sedan. Both Na Petrol and Strong Hybrid Powertrain options will be available. Launch of the next-gen Honda city is expected in 2028. Honda might also be working on an all-new SUV based on the PF2 platform, the new SUV would probably be powered by the Elevates 1.5 litre Petrol Engine.
