With the MPV segment witnessing rapid growth, Kia has been planning to launch another EV MPV in the segment. Planning to utilize the goodwill that the recent launch of the Clavis ICE variant has been able to create, it is now focusing on launching an all-new Carens Clavis EV which would probably debut on 15th July.
Powertrain, Features From Creta Electric
Although, Kia has not confirmed any details about the EV, its possible that it might use the same powertrain as that of the Hyundai Creta Electric. If that would be the case the Kia Clavis would get the same 42 KWh and 51.4 KWh battery packs. With these battery packs the range would vary from 390 Km To 473 Km respectively. Both the variants would be using the front axle mounted electric motor, with a power output of around 135 Ps and 171 Ps of power.
Since the car would be a little heavier its possible that the Carens MPV might compromise on the range. Since the Carens and the Creta might use the same battery packs as that of the Hyundai Creta its possible that the vehicle might still have AC and DC fast charging
Styling and Safety Package
Other features would include features such as rear AC vents and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) features. Many features would be the same as that of the Vehicle to load features which would be the same as the ICE Carens Clavis such as the Boss function and the front passenger seat. Beyond that the car could possibly have a dual panoramic display panel , 4-way adjustable driver seat, front ventilated seats, smart air purifier and Bose premium surround sound system with 8 speakers.
Since the battery capacity of the vehicle would be the same as that of the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Carens would be equipped with a 11KW AC charger that would be able to charge the vehicle from 10% to 100 % in just 4 hours. Beyond that the car might also be made available with a 50KW DC fast charger that would be able to charge the vehicle in only 58 minutes. Beyond that the car would be equipped with paddle shifters and regenerative braking.
Using the same chassis as that of the Hyundai Creta the car would be equipped with (ESC), Hill start assist Control, Vehicle stability management, Downhill brake control, Brake Assist System and all wheel disc brakes. The car would also have an level 2 ADAS package with around 20 autonomous features.
The vehicle would work as a test bed for other manufacturers as well. Witnessing its reception and the kind of sales it receives other manufacturers would probably jump in on the MPV Bandwagon, manufacturing new EV’S in the MPV segment. Since its a first of a kind vehicle its reception would be of considerable importance for Other Manufacturers.
