With the developing Two Wheeler segment in India, Piaggio seems to be in a pursuit to revamp all of their vehicles in the market. The new versions of Aprilia and Vespa scooters were recently sighted in Ooty Tamil Nadu. The scooters seemed to be complete with new changes and were testing devoid of any camouflage hence its possible that the scooters might be up for a launch soon.
Aprilia SR
The Aprilia SR 160 that was spotted testing did not have any profound changes. Its possible that the company might have tuned the engine differently and testing the new changes with the rider. The scooters would launch soon and compete with the upcoming Hero Air Xoom 125 as well as the 160. The scooter had the same rear lighting along with similar rear turn indicators as seen on the previous gen models. The scooters would supposedly launch with a new TFT display as well. The TFT display could become segment first for the company and would allow the brand to position their scooters a little differently than the rest.
Previously the scooters were powered by the 125,150 as well as the 160cc engine. Performance metrics of the vehicles would remain the same as no new mechanical changes are expected from the manufacturers.
Hero Air Xoom 160
Beyond the Vespa scooters Hero is also expected to launch the new Air Xoom 160, that would compete with the 160 cc variant of the Aprillia. Hero would be planning to launch a new 160 cc variant of the Xoom scooter In the future. The scooter was recently spotted while being tested. This would be a premium segment scooter with a 156 cc liquid cooled engine that generates about 14 hp and a peak torque of 13.7 NM. Hero seemingly has been planning to expand their line up and have a vehicle for all the market segments that exist in India. Hence they have launched a EV scooter along with a premium 160cc scooter for the users who seek a more advanced and superior two wheeler. Beyond that the new scooter would have keyless start, turn by turn navigation and a fully digital instrument cluster.
The premium scooter segment currently has no competitors. Some of the most desirable features of the new scooters would be the enhanced looks as well as the new engines that are much more power full than the normal scooters. While manufacturers tune their 110cc to 125 cc scooters to run efficiently, with limited top speeds, these premium scooters are tuned to get better top speeds with aggressive acceleration and handling.
